Offices Reopening for Appointment-Only Services

Starting July 7, 2020, the West Virginia State Tax Department will reopen offices for in-person customer service by appointment only.


Locations reopening include the Taxpayer Services Office and Charleston Regional Office located in the Greenbrooke building in Charleston, and the regional offices located in Beckley, Clarksburg, Martinsburg, Parkersburg, and Wheeling.

Before Making an Appointment

Taxpayers are encouraged to contact the Tax Department by phone or email to address their questions before making an appointment for an in-person visit. Taxpayers can ask questions by phone by calling our Taxpayer Services Division at (304) 558-3333 or toll-free 1- 800-982-8297. To Schedule an Appointment

Taxpayers may schedule an appointment online or by calling Taxpayer Services at 304-558-2799. Appointments are available from 9:00AM to 4:00PM, Monday through Friday.

MOST IMPORTANTLY: If you are ill or experiencing fever, cough, sneezing etc. or have recently traveled to or through a COVID-19 hotspot, please reschedule your appointment. If you have had close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 within the last 14 days or have reason to believe you have had close contact with someone who might have COVID-19, please reschedule your appointment.

Upon Arrival

When you arrive at the office, please follow the instructions below:

  1. Please call the office number above to advise the Tax representatives that you have arrived for your appointment. Please do not bring extra guests.
  2. Wait in your vehicle until you have been called in by the Tax representative.
  3. Enter through the designated door and sign in.
  4. Please wear a mask. Hand sanitizer will be available for you to use when arriving at the office.
  5. A screening, including temperature check and screening questions, will be required.
  6. Bring all of your documents required for the appointment to limit the number of visits necessary.
  7. When your appointment is complete, please proceed to the nearest exit to leave the office.

We will practice disinfecting procedures before and after appointments in order to enhance the safety of our visitors and our employees.

Payment Plans

Our Compliance Division can be reached at 304-558-8753 for assistance in obtaining a payment plan for a period of greater than twelve months. Requests for payment plans for periods of less than twelve months are available on our Payment Plans page.
